Planes, trains and automobiles... how we got to Bolivia!

When you're travelling on a budget and have time on your hands you often end up taking some crazy routes just to save a few quid ... this was exactly how we got to Bolivia ... planes, trains and automobiles - and a bit of walking.

1. Plane ... from Rio to Camp Grande ... it only stopped twice on the way ... bonus!
2. Bus from Campo Grande to Corumba
3. Walked across the Brazilian/ Bolivian border
 - sounds easy, in fact it deserves sub points!
  • go to border first thing in the morning to avoid crazy queues as advised by hostel.
  • get exit stamp from Brazil and entry stamp for Bolivia
  • go to train station to get tickets to avoid being ripped off by ambitious travel agents.
  • go back to border and walk into Brazil... avoiding eye contact with everyone and being caught crossing the border without getting passport stamped!
  • lunch in Brazil - don't mind if I do.
  • collect bags and go back to border
  • avoid further eye contact while walking/running across border before anyone realises you've been in Brazil without the correct paperwork.
  • breathe a sigh of relief once in Bolivia that you didn't get caught or had to bribe your way back into the country.

4. Overnight train from the border to Santa Cruz, just in time for breakfast!
