Seeing the Salt Flats was one of the main events for this trip. Having seen and heard so many things about this area in Bolivia, I knew that this was going to be an impressive spectacle ... and it did not disappoint!
On our first day we climbed high into the mountains, where you could see for miles, I felt like I was on top of the world. I also felt my head was in a vice - damn altitude! But we came prepared with a bag of coca leaves so as we drove through spectacular landscapes I chewed and dribbled desperately trying to find relief from the headaches and dizziness that 4000 metres plus brings.

| Is it a condor... or is it a rock?! |
Finally, we reached the main event on our 3rd night, just in time to see the sun setting.
A few hours later, we were up to see the sun rising over the Salt Flats.
And then we saw the flats in full day light!
Then commenced several hours of crazy Salar photo composing and taking! Judging by the pictures, we were clearly delirious after the early wake up for sunrise!
Beyond messing about taking crazy pics the Salt Flats were stunning ....

Our final stop before leaving Uyuni was the train cemetery, just a short journey off the flats. An impressive site to see with lots of old trains against the backdrop of the desert and bright blue skies.
